A Cold Embrace as Winter Settles Upon Us
The winter cold settles over me like a heavy cloak. My new home on the Maine coast is not nearly as warm as the apartment I called home for the past 7 winters. I knew this adjustment would need to be made although I didn’t expect that I would be so happy about it.
Bundled under layers of wool as I sleep, I am toasty even as the temperature plummets. The kitten, warmth-seeking creature that it is, finds me and snuggles close purring and sharing warmth.
Waking early each morning, I dash to turn up the thermostat, feed the cat, and push the button on the coffee maker. Then, back into bed until the coffee is brewed.
This cold little morning dance connects me to the reality of nature, the season, and the climate I live in. I am grateful for the reminder and aware of how joyfully I will welcome a warmer season.

Life will feel more manageable and hold a more serious tone with the Moon now in Virgo. Put simple kindness at the center of your agenda over the next few days. Don’t neglect or forget that kindness toward yourself is just as important as kindness to others.
When the Moon passes through Virgo it is easy to focus on perfection and self-criticism. Kindness, perspective, and realistic expectations will help. Do your best to release perfectionism and make certain that your priorities are realistic. Focus your attention on practical detail-oriented tasks. This is a great time to clean out your overcrowded email inbox, or clean and organize your desk, closets, and junk drawer.
At 12:09 PM ET, the Sun forms a challenging square aspect to Neptune. This will last several days and will be working in tandem with the Sun’s sextile to Saturn on Monday. Because these two aspects bring such different energies to the table this may be felt as an inner conflict. This is a great time to practice managing paradoxes.
On the one hand, common sense and effort feel supportive and strong, on the other, there may be a need to rest and disengage your focus. How can we make space for both of these? Awareness is the key. The Sun sextile Saturn offers common sense and practicality. At the same time, Sun square Neptune insists that we release reality and spend the day in an unfocused state of daydreaming.
Take turns allowing practicality and lack of clarity to both have their plate at the table. Work hard and take breaks throughout the day for daydreaming, meditating, or unfocused creativity. Don’t ignore one in favor of the other.

Today’s Virgo Moon reaches the Last Quarter Phase at 3:56 AM EST. During the Last Quarter Phase, the Sun and Moon are in their closing square aspect to each other. Next week on Saturday, December 23 we come to the powerful New Moon occurring at 1 degree Capricorn. The Last Quarter Moon comes at the midpoint between last week’s Gemini Full Moon and next week’s Capricorn New Moon.
From our perspective on earth, we see half the disc of the Moon. Half of the Moon is lit by the Sun and half is immersed in shadow. If you are up in the middle of the night you will see it rise. Looking high above near dawn you will find it at its highest point, it will then set near midday.
Consider what has been building over the past 3 weeks since the Sagittarius New Moon on November 23rd. This lunar phase encourages you to release your attention, knowing that all necessary forward action for this cycle has been done. All that is left is the process of release. Reorganize your priorities and prepare to shift or release an emotional stance that has completed the job it was intended for.
This may be a bit of a fussy day, so get the house tidied up. Clean some closets or organize what you will need to prepare for the holidays ahead. Pull down your holiday ornaments and get rid of what you no longer need. Don’t let emotional attachment get in the way of a tidy life.
