GEMINI NEW MOON – PERCEPTION & CURIOSITY

The Gemini New Moon (9° Gemini) occurs at 7:31 AM Eastern time. Your emotional needs are pushing you to gather information through conversations and curiosity. Because Mercury rules Gemini and is retrograde you still must absorb something from the past before committing to the path ahead. Mercury turns direct in just a few days and will reenter Gemini on June 13th. Until then there will continue to be the sense of treading water.
 
As we move through Gemini, which is the last stage of spring, we want to understand all the growth and change in our environment. Consider the conversations that have been on hold for some weeks now. Plant a seed for those to move forward, but don’t be in a hurry for those seeds to sprout. With Mercury still retrograde the conversations will take some time to fully engage. If you try to move forward too quickly the resulting anxiety will likely create a sense of not being truly authentic.
 
At each New Moon, we plant a seed that we aim to grow and develop. The seed we plant now is intended to grow into intellectual curiosity, understanding, and acceptance of others. The illumination of this cycle comes at the Sagittarius Full Moon on June 14th. The longer cycle brings us to the Gemini Full Moon on December 8, 2022. The seed planted now will enliven your understanding at that time.

GATHER INFORMATION AND IDEAS

Today the Moon continues through the mutable Air sign of Gemini. This suggests that emotions are tied up with thought processes and we are more adaptable than usual. We are simply not so stuck in immovable patterns of thinking. Emotions are more apt to be intellectually processed rather than felt or managed within the body. Keep that in mind as you engage with others today
 
Life can generally remain rather light and somewhat detached when the Moon is in Gemini. We all want to communicate and are driven by curiosity, variety, ideas, and opinions. When the Moon is in Gemini, we instinctively want to gather information, talk, and learn. Curiosity pushes us to understand a variety of ideas and opinions. We need connections and conversations with others to maintain emotional equilibrium. 
 
At 4:10 PM the Moon forms a square aspect to Neptune at the same time that she forms a trine aspect to Saturn. Use your imagination to calm down any anxiety and bring yourself into a state of equilibrium. Writing poetry, meditating, listening to music, dancing, or kissing should settle your system.

KEEP COMFORT FOOD ON HAND

At 1:49 AM ET, the Moon leaves Gemini to enter the Cardinal Water sign of Cancer. The restlessness of the past few days gives way to the need for a sense of belonging and emotional connection. This is a time to feel and express your vulnerabilities. Go ahead and tell someone how you feel no matter how messy it may seem to be.
 
Although the Moon is very much at home in Cancer due to its rulership of this sign, that does not translate to it being always an easy time. This will be a time of deep sensitivity and even moodiness. An excellent way to use this time is to focus on domestic activities and connections with loved ones and close family members. 
 
At 1:31 PM ET, the Moon forms a challenging square aspect to Mars in Aries. If something/someone pushes your buttons and you find yourself rearing up in anger, take a deep breath and let it roll off your shoulders. It will pass quickly if you let it and the rest of the day/ evening will be fine. 
 
That being said, it may be a good idea to keep plenty of comfort food on hand.

VIGILANCE & FIERCE PROTECTION

The Moon continues through Cancer today, offering emotional attunement toward home and family. Stay home, play with the children or grandchildren, bake cookies, and take a nap after lunch. With the Moon in this Cardinal, Water sign our focus remains on domestic concerns, love, and family harmony.

You may feel drawn to places of safety and people who deeply care for you. You may experience more vulnerability than usual and can become defensive if old buttons are pushed. Practice patience and loving-kindness toward others as you indulge in what brings comfort today.

Don’t let the focus on home and family suggest that this is a sign that only drifts through a state of emotional tenderness. There is another side of Cancer, not seen as frequently as it only comes to the forefront when needed. Cancer holds a fierceness equal to its tenderness. Cancer is a sign of mother and mothering. Think of the vigilance and fierce protection of a mother bear whose cubs are threatened. Cancer can and does take direct and powerful action when its loved ones are threatened in any way. There is deep immense protectiveness in the heart of Cancer.

THE SLOW PROCESS OF BEGINNING FORWARD MOTION

Mercury stationed Direct at 4 AM ET. This does not mean it is time to let go of all caution and blast forward. With both Mars and Jupiter in the forward blasting sign of Aries, that is exactly what we want to do! However, remind yourself that it takes time for Mercury’s forward path to get completely underway.
 
When Mercury re-enters Gemini on June 13th you will be given the green light and ready to go. Until then, begin the process but don’t be in a hurry. Once Mercury is back in Gemini forward motion begins in earnest.
 
Today begins with the Moon still in family-oriented Cancer suggesting a good day to linger over morning coffee with those you love. At 2:38 PM ET, the Moon enters the fixed Fire sign of Leo. This shifts the emotional focus away from tenderness toward enthusiasm and fun-loving activities.
 
The Sun rules Leo and brings light, delight, and warmth to the table. All else being equal the Leo Moon simply feels good. We are more able than usual to exude courage and confidence. This offers us the opportunity to let the joyful child inside of us come alive and speak for itself. We want to fulfill grand and dramatic desires. We want to be seen and acknowledged for the unique individual we are and the path we have traveled.

KARMIC STORIES FROM THE PAST

Emotionally this weekend’s Leo Moon offers a great time for romantic and creative activities. Don’t allow petty or unimportant ego issues get in the way of grand self-expression and romantic gestures. Step onto the stage that presents itself and go for the gusto. Leo is a very personal self-oriented sign. With the Moon in Leo, we seek a greater level of attention and dramatic expression. This is a day to shower your friends and loved ones with warmth and generosity. If you are on your own, shower yourself with warmth, generosity, and expressions of self-love. Don’t scrimp on attention, expressions of love, or gifts!

At 5:47 PM ET, Saturn stations retrograde at 25° Aquarius. Saturn is the authoritative teacher insisting that we take responsibility and do the work to reap long-term benefits. Do you have personal planets (Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars) or points (Asc, MC, Nodes) between 17° – 26° of Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius)? If so you are currently processing a year-long pattern of facing something that has long been a challenge in your life.

Think of Saturn as the Lord of Karma. This is the planet that insists we take responsibility, be accountable, and face reality in some particular regard. Saturn’s retrograde actually enhances the work that Saturn is trusted with. It is at times of its retrograde that lessons of the past are brought forward. Karmic debts are sorted and we understand the reality of what we have created with our actions. During the retrograde period, efforts of the past will be rewarded, even as irresponsibility will come due for payment.

To understand this, look to the house that holds Aquarius in your chart. What is the lesson you are learning in this area? Look to the house that holds any personal planets/points that are between 17° – 26° of Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) in your natal chart. The challenges you are experiencing between the areas of your life related to those houses will lead you to the old karmic stories of the past.

Saturn will remain retrograde until October 22, 2022. Spend these months facing the reality of what is at stake here. What have you learned, and how you can use your knowledge to clear up mistakes of the past.
