Don’t Wear White After Labor Day

This week delivers us to the other side of the cultural divide between summer and autumn. The astrological divide waits until the Autumn Equinox on September 22nd, but Labor Day is already behind us, and the days are getting shorter and cooler.

If you are my age, you might remember the rule that we were not allowed to wear white after Labor Day. The fact that I remember this as a rule from childhood says everything about my mother’s class aspirations. She wore hats and gloves like a Jackie Kennedy look-alike while we planted potatoes and fed the pigs.

Back to the New Moon. This week completes the lunar cycle that began with the total solar eclipse in Leo on August 12th. The Virgo New Moon arrives Thursday night, on a day that also brings Venus into Scorpio, Mercury into Libra, and Uranus stationing retrograde. This new cycle holds great change, with the brakes applied just as we revisit an awakening already in progress.

Monday, September 7, 2026: Moon starts in Cancer | Moon enters Leo

We wake this morning with the Moon still in Cancer, the last stretch of sensitivity from the weekend. Use this morning for self-care before the Leo Moon arrives.

At 12:49 pm EDT, the Moon enters Leo. This takes our emotional nature from a cardinal water sign into a fixed fire sign. When the Moon is in Leo, we want to be seen and appreciated for who we are, without apology. Find the house in your natal chart that holds Leo; that’s the area of your life that you will want to put on display for the next few days.

This afternoon favors anything that lets you shine. Wear what makes you feel good. Talk about what you are proud of. Gather people around you. Offer admiration and appreciation to others and allow yourself to receive it from others.

  • How do you want to take up more space today?
  • What do you want to be appreciated for?
  • Who do you want to surround yourself with this afternoon?

Tuesday, September 8, 2026: Moon in Leo | Moon Conjunct Jupiter

The Moon entered Leo yesterday and continues through this fixed fire sign today. The Leo Moon connects us all to this generous, playful energy for a few days each month. When the Moon is in Leo, we want to express what we often keep to ourselves. You may tell someone you love them and give of yourself more easily and demonstratively than usual. When the Moon is in Leo, you also want attention and adoration from others, and insecurity can surface quickly if it doesn’t arrive. If you notice yourself more sensitive than usual, ask directly for the reassurance you want. Don’t wait for someone to guess.

At 2:36 pm EDT, the Moon meets Jupiter, who has been in Leo since June 30th. Jupiter enlarges whatever it touches, and today it enlarges the wish to be seen and fully expressed. Allow your generosity to show. Express yourself without hesitation. Shine your light on those around you.

  • Who do you want to express more generosity to?
  • What deserves your celebration?
  • What are you proud of that you can express fully today?

Wednesday, September 9, 2026: Moon starts in Leo | Moon enters Virgo

We wake this morning with the Moon still in Leo. Let whoever is across the breakfast table or in your environment this morning be the recipient of your appreciation. Enjoy the warmth of your interactions, as it will be another month before the Leo Moon arrives again.

At 3:35 pm EDT, the Moon enters Virgo. This moves us from a fixed fire sign into a mutable earth sign. When the Moon is in Virgo, we want everything around us to make sense in a practical manner. This afternoon favors small, concrete tasks. Look at your to-do list, your budget, and the emails you’ve been avoiding. Make that dentist appointment.

Tonight the sky matches this quieter mood. We are in the darkest point of the lunar cycle, the last stretch before tomorrow night’s Virgo New Moon. Finish what is in front of you, and let whatever is still unresolved wait.

  • What do you really need to get off your to-do list?
  • What detail have you been avoiding that you can take care of today?
  • What are you willing to let sit unfinished until after the coming New Moon?

Thursday, September 10, 2026: Venus enters Scorpio | Mercury enters Libra | Uranus stations Retrograde | Virgo New Moon

Today is the day the whole week has been building toward. Four major developments occur before the day is done.

At 4:06 am EDT, while you sleep, Venus leaves Libra, where she has been since August 6th, and enters Scorpio. While Venus was in Libra, our values sought ease and beauty in our connections. Now, with Venus entering Scorpio, what we desire turns a corner toward depth and intensity. What is pretty and looks good will no longer fill the bill.

Although Venus is leaving Libra today, she will return to Libra on October 25th, and then return again to Scorpio on December 4th. All of this is due to Venus’ upcoming retrograde (October 3 – November 13). For now, notice the dichotomy between being polite and being brutally honest.

At 12:20 pm EDT, Mercury leaves Virgo, where it has been since August 25th, and enters Libra. Intellectual precision gives way to diplomatic niceties. Mercury will remain in Libra for an extended visit as it is also preparing for a retrograde (October 8 – October 28), which will overlap with Venus’ retrograde. Slow down your considerations and allow yourself to think beyond your own beliefs. It is time to work to understand the way others think.

At 2:27 pm EDT, Uranus, the planet of awakening, stations retrograde at 5 degrees Gemini. A station is a pause: Uranus appears to stand still before appearing to turn backward. Look to the house that holds Gemini in your natal chart; whatever changes you are experiencing in this area of your life will require reconsideration in the coming months. Uranus is the planet of awakening and has been powerfully changing your thinking since April. If you have planets in the early degrees of any mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) this will impact you most directly.

Even with all of this, the entire day is building toward the Virgo New Moon at 11:27 pm EDT. This completes the cycle that began at the solar eclipse on August 12. Here we begin anew. At this Virgo New Moon, plant a metaphorical seed to begin a practical project that will be useful and helpful to others. Plant this project in the house (area of life) that holds Virgo in your natal chart.

  • What do you deeply desire that you have been too polite to ask for?
  • What have you changed in the house that holds Gemini in your natal chart, that you need to work more deeply with or even reconsider?
  • What metaphorical practical project can you plant a seed to begin?

Friday, September 11, 2026: Moon in Virgo | Moon enters Libra

The Moon is just beginning her new cycle in Virgo and spends today pushing us to move ahead with practical intention. When the Moon is in Virgo, we want to organize and make the world around us neat and tidy. Consider the metaphorical seed you have planted. If you haven’t done that yet, do so today. Then make a list and set up the system to make it workable.

At 7:51 pm EDT, the Moon enters Libra. Here we move from a mutable earth sign into a cardinal air sign. When the Moon is in Libra, we want to balance our emotions through our relationships with others. Think about the fact that this is also the first evening with Venus in Scorpio and Mercury in Libra. Conversations and connections tonight may go deeper or take longer than usual.  Seek the people who will ‘go there’ with you

  • What organization can you do today that will make tomorrow easier?
  • Who do you want to have deep conversations with tonight?

Saturday, September 12, 2026: Moon in Libra | Mercury Trine Pluto | Mercury Oppose Neptune

The Moon continues through Libra today, and the drive to please others is strong. We want to solve problems through diplomacy and are more able to set our own feelings aside in service of the peace we’re after. Seeing every side of a situation at once makes it difficult to make decisions. Don’t commit to anything today. Keep your attention on cooperation and creating beautiful surroundings.

At 11:59 am EDT, Mercury in Libra trines Pluto. This is a free flow of energy that is great for speaking up for yourself and what you believe in.  Just thirty-eight minutes later, at 12:37 pm EDT, Mercury opposes Neptune. The trine to Pluto empowers your thinking, and the opposition to Neptune blurs it immediately. This may feel confusing, and yet, if you have learned to trust your intuition, don’t question it now.

  • What decision are you willing to let go of today?
  • Where do you need to get clear about your beliefs?
  • What is your intuition telling you, even if it doesn’t make sense?

Sunday, September 13, 2026: Moon in Libra | Mercury Trine Uranus

The Moon remains in Libra today, as the week comes to its end. The emotional pull toward harmony and understanding continues. Remember that it is always an inside job. Make sure you are being true to yourself and not trying to only show what you think others want to see.

At 10:39 pm EDT, Mercury in Libra trines Uranus. A trine is a 120-degree aspect, and two planets in this aspect are always in the same element. Here we are working with the element of Air, the element that speaks to matters of the mind and intellect. This aspect could bring sudden insights or unexpected news. The information that arrives may be unsettling or exciting and may mark a clear line between past and future. Let yourself embrace what arrives.

  • Are you trying to “keep the peace” when that is only prolonging the inevitable?
  • What relationship or situation are you not seeing clearly?
  • What insight is ready to click into place?
